Ava's eyes never left the crack in the wall as Commander Pierce entered the room, flanked by two imposing guards. The commander's presence seemed to fill the space, his confident stride and calculating gaze making Ava's skin crawl. He stopped in front of the table, his eyes scanning the room before settling on Ava. "Good morning, Miss Ava," he said, his voice dripping with false cordiality. "I trust you're feeling...cooperative today?" The question hung in the air like a challenge, and Ava's instincts screamed at her to be cautious. She remained silent, her eyes locked on the commander's, as she tried to gauge his intentions. Commander Pierce chuckled, a dry, mirthless sound. "Very well, let's get started then." He nodded to one of the guards, who stepped forward and grasped Ava's arm, pulling her toward the chair. Ava resisted, but the guard's grip was like a vice. She was forced to sit, her eyes never leaving the commander's face. The guard released her arm, and Ava rubbed the bruised skin, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew that the truth serum was a powerful tool, one that could extract even the deepest secrets from a person's mind. But Ava was determined to resist, to keep her memories and her thoughts hidden from the commander's prying eyes. Commander Pierce leaned against the table, his eyes glinting with curiosity. "You see, Ava, we've been watching you for some time now. We know about your...talents. And we believe you possess information that could be very valuable to us." He paused, studying Ava's face. "Information about your sister, perhaps? Or something more...substantial?" Ava's heart skipped a beat as the commander's words struck a nerve. What did he know about her sister? And what could he possibly want with her memories? She tried to keep her expression neutral, but her mind was reeling with questions and fears. The commander smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "Don't play dumb, Ava. We know you're hiding something. And we'll stop at nothing to extract it from you." He nodded to the guard, who stepped forward with the vial of glowing liquid. Ava's eyes widened as the guard approached her, the serum held menacingly in his hand. She knew that once the serum was administered, she would be powerless to resist the commander's questions. Her memories, her thoughts, her deepest secrets would all be laid bare. With a surge of adrenaline, Ava made a split-second decision. She lunged forward, knocking the chair to the ground as she tried to grab the vial from the guard's hand. The guard was caught off guard, and for a moment, Ava had the upper hand. But it was a fleeting moment. The guard recovered quickly, pinning Ava to the ground as the commander shouted for reinforcements. Ava struggled and kicked, but she was no match for the guard's strength. As the room filled with more guards, Ava realized she was beaten. The commander's face loomed over her, his eyes blazing with triumph. "It's over, Ava," he spat. "You'll tell us everything we want to know, and more." Ava's vision began to blur as the guard held her down, the vial of serum hovering above her face. She knew she was running out of time, and her only hope was to find a way to resist the serum's effects. With a Herculean effort, Ava focused all her energy on her memories, on the walls she had built around her mind. She pictured her sister's face, her laughter, and her smile. She pictured the streets of New Elyria, the city she loved and hated in equal measure. And then, just as the serum was about to be administered, Ava felt a strange sensation wash over her. It was as if her memories were shifting, rearranging themselves in a desperate bid to protect her secrets. The commander's face twisted in rage as Ava's eyes glazed over, her mind slipping into a strange, dreamlike state. "No!" he shouted, slamming his fist on the table. "We can't let her—" But it was too late. Ava's world went dark, her memories fragmenting into a thousand different pieces. And when she came to, she was somewhere else entirely, with no memory of how she got there. Ava's eyes fluttered open, and she found herself in a cramped, dimly lit alleyway. The walls were covered in graffiti, and the air was thick with the smell of smoke and decay. Ava's head spun as she tried to remember how she had gotten there. And then, she saw it. A figure, watching her from the shadows. A figure with eyes that seemed to burn with an inner fire. "Ava," the figure whispered, its voice like a sigh on the wind. "I've been waiting for you."
