The archive was not on any map of Elyndor that civilians could access.
Calder led Leira through the city after midnight, down streets that grew progressively older as they went — cobblestones giving way to worn granite giving way to something she couldn't quite name, a material that predated the city itself.
"How do you know about this place?" she asked, keeping her voice low.
"My grandmother was House Solen's record-keeper for forty years. She left me everything when she died — including the things she was afraid to write down and left in a box for me to find only after she was gone." He glanced back at her. "Coward's move, but I understood it by the time I found the box."
They descended a staircase cut into the rock beneath an unremarkable building. The iron key opened a door so old its hinges had fused to the wall, and beyond it was a room that smelled of paper so ancient it had gone past fragility to something almost mineral.
The archives were organized by family. Not alphabetically — by blood. The records clustered the way families clustered, the way grudges clustered, the way power clustered over centuries.
"House Brevin," Leira murmured, running her fingers along the spines of the oldest folios. "They have the oldest section."
"Because they built the first part of the archive," Calder said. "Before the other families even knew it existed."
In the back of the Brevin section, behind a false shelf, they found a single folio sealed with black wax impressed with a symbol Leira recognized: the oracle's mark. The mark of her order, generations old.
She looked at Calder. "An oracle sealed this."
"Yes."
"Which means whatever's inside, an oracle was asked to hide it."
"Yes."
She broke the seal.
